Kenny Cook had always dreamed of restoring an older vehicle. He initially set his sights on a Camaro, but the plans fell through. Next, he considered a ‘63 Corvette, but he never pursued it far enough to make it a reality.
One day, while chatting with his friend Randy, Kenny mentioned his interest in perhaps working on a truck instead. Time passed, and one day Randy brought up a 1966 C10 he had bought some time ago with the intention of restoring it. However, Randy realized he didn’t have the time to finish the project. He asked Kenny if he was interested. Kenny jumped at the opportunity and asked if Randy would help with the restoration. Randy agreed, sharing some of his great ideas for the build.
Boy, did Randy ever have great ideas! Initially, they thought about making it a daily driver. Kenny set a budget and started looking for an LT engine for the truck. While everyone else was doing LS swaps, Kenny wanted something different and sought an LT swap. It took months to find the engine, but patience paid off. By the time they got the engine, the frame had just returned from the powder coating shop.
They painted the engine and started putting it together. Around this time, the cab came back from Rick Steinburg. When it was placed on the frame, Kenny caught the fever. He saw this old truck transforming into something special. This was the turning point where he decided not to cut any corners, which was a good thing because Kenny had already gone past his budget, but something inside him urged him to go all in. The next day, Kenny walked into Randy’s shop and declared, “I’m going shopping!” When Randy asked for what, Kenny responded, “I’m going to buy an enclosed trailer for this truck!” Randy laughed and said, “I don’t blame you!”
From that point, everything started coming together. When it came to the wheels, the decision was easy. They found a set of Schott wheels online and both knew instantly that they were the ones.
Kenny was so pleased with how everything was going. The build was surprisingly smooth in terms of decision-making. Everyone involved was on the same page. Randy Jackson and JT worked on the build, Rick Steinburg handled the body and paint, and Ryan Albers took care of the exhaust.
Often, after completing a part of the project, Randy would ask Kenny, “Do you like it?” Kenny’s response was always, “Yes, yes.” To which Randy would reply, “Well, if you like it, then I love it!”
Randy introduced Kenny to his group of friends who were avid truck show enthusiasts. They welcomed Kenny into their group, shared their knowledge, and helped him learn how to clean and maintain his new truck. Kenny felt blessed to have them as friends and was grateful for their support.
Kenny would like to thank Randy, JT, Ryan, Justin, Dustin, Rick, Nate, and Jack. This truck wouldn’t be where it is without them.
