“When something works, stick with it.” That very well could be Jeff Jordan’s life motto because it definitely suits him. This ‘81 Chevy Blazer (yeah, we see you side-eyeing us on the model year but keep reading) is the third truck Jeff has had Hill’s Hot Rods work their magic on, and he couldn’t be happier. In fact, to call him a satisfied customer would be a big understatement!
“I’ve had hot rods and Corvettes my whole life. I’m a convertible guy, and I’m a true car and hot rod lover. I’ve had multiple trucks and Blazers, and when I wanted to do a really cool squarebody Blazer custom built to my specs, I turned to the pros at Hill’s Hot Rods.” Luckily for Jeff, Jason and his happy “Crüe” of craftsmen were ready to rock with an ‘81 that was already in the beginning stages of customization yet was still essentially a blank canvas ready to go in any direction its new owner could imagine.
With the HHR “Build-a-Square” program, customers get to choose one of three levels of customization for their dream ride, from mild restomod to wild show vehicle. After studying the list of options available, we first assumed that Jeff’s Blazer would be sitting at the upper end of a Level 2 build, but then you notice that this is an ‘81, meaning that it was born with a steel roof over those Snowden front bucket seats. And converting the Blazer to a full convertible via some donor parts from a ‘74 was no easy task due to all of the metalwork involved.
But even with the radical work that would be involved in bringing the Blazer to life, Jeff was very clear that this would never be a trailer queen, and he would be enjoying it to its fullest the moment he got the keys. “I wanted something unique that I could drive all over the country and they delivered that for me. The Blazer was delivered on the schedule they promised, and it was everything, and more, than what I had hoped for.”
And let’s not for a second think that Jeff was impatient during the build process – far from it. But remarkably, the Chevy was finished in a scant eight months! We’re guessing it was possible due to the fact that the guys at Hill’s Hot Rods have built tons of squarebodies before, so they know them inside and out. Add to that their streamlined system of knocking out some of the baddest trucks on the planet, their relationships with quality parts suppliers, and you have a winning combination that’s sure to make jaws drop whenever a new Hill’s build is debuted.
When we asked what the most memorable experience is that he’s had with his Blazer so far, Jeff had a lot to say! “I picked the Blazer up from Hill’s Hot Rods at Goodguys Spring Lone Star Nationals in March 2023, then brought it home to Phoenix for Goodguys Spring Nationals, then went on to Goodguys in Del Mar, California. Next, with my brother who owns two squarebodies of his own, we
started our summer road trips. In June, we went from Phoenix to Salt Lake City for C10 Nationals, then in August, we drove the Blazer topless from Phoenix to Avila Beach, California for C10 SLO Down. In September, it was Phoenix to San Antonio to join the Vintage Air Road Tour to Triple Crown of Rodding in Nashville. Next, we went to Fort Worth, Texas, for C10s in the Park and Goodguys at Texas Motor Speedway, then back home Arizona for Dino’s Git Down and another Goodguys in Scottsdale.
As of right now, I’ve been in 11 states and covered over 9,000 miles, which has included 11 major car shows and many smaller get-togethers and cruise-ins. It has truly been a dream come true to spend this summer in my new Blazer with my brother. Thanks, Hill’s Hot Rods!”
