“I wanted a really cool shop truck to pick up and deliver parts. I found the truck in Arkansas. It was a really rust-free truck, but bone stock. I only had to replace the front portion of the driver side rocker, and lower front fenders. It had a really cool, original patina.” So began the story of Chris Clark’s ‘64 Chevy C-10, a truck that he actually no longer owns but still loves all the same. Chris also happens to be the owner of Ace Fabrication in Clever, Missouri. And who better to tell the story of the truck than the person who built and owned it during its formative years, before passing it along for others to enjoy?
“I had started building the truck three months before my little girl Aubrey was born. I knew my extra time would be limited once she was born, so it was a race to finish the truck quickly.” Once Chris had the truck in his shop, it was down to business. “I pulled it into the shop and completely disassembled it, then c-notched the frame and made my own front and rear air ride suspension – a 2-link in the rear, pancaked front crossmember, and shortened/Z’d front control arms.” Under the hood, a mildly cammed Chevy 5.3L attached to a stock 4L60E made a solid combination that Chris would be able to rely on mile after mile. Three months after Aubrey showed up, the truck was back on the ground and ready to hit the road.
After only a few shakedown miles, Chris made the most logical decision possible: to make the 19-hour journey to Dino’s Git Down in Arizona, and bring his family along for the ride! Believe it or not, the ol’ C-10 performed perfectly the whole way there, and the whole way back! Chris tells us that this trip was one of the most unforgettable of his life, and we believe it! Chris actually drove the truck even further than that after Dino’s, hitting up legendary flatland BMX mecca “The Spot” in Huntington Beach in Southern California and just taking in everything that is SoCal. As the kids say, IYKYK.
But all good things must come to an end, and after a couple of proud years of ownership, Chris eventually made the choice to part ways with the Chevy. After thoroughly interviewing and vetting potential new owners, Matt Nixon had the opportunity to trade a suitcase full of cash for the keys to the ‘64, before bringing the truck to its new home in Ohio.
Once there, Matt enjoyed the truck as it was for a while before deciding to personalize things a bit. The 20-inch Centerline smoothie wheels were replaced with Raceline Grudge rollers in 20×8 and 20×10 sizes with Nitto tires, and the LS engine’s power was bumped up with the addition of a Harrop Performance TVS2650 supercharger. All told, the truck is now good for about 500-horsepower! The interior got dressed up a bit more with a Snowden bench seat and a Sparc Industries 3100 steering wheel, while the wood bed floor was refinished and sealed. And then? Well, he sold it, of course!
Look, we’re right there with you – how do you sell a truck like this? The reality is, most of us don’t have unlimited garage space, so sometimes you’ve gotta sacrifice a ride or two to get the next dream ride. We don’t yet know who the new owner of this fine ‘64 is, but hopefully they’ll hang on to it for a while, make their own changes, and keep showing it off for the world to enjoy!
