If you’ve spent any time around the truck and car show scene in the Oklahoma and Texas area, chances are you’ve seen one of Jack Martin’s legendary Chevy OBS builds. A true die-hard fan of the 1988 to 1998 Chevy trucks, Jack has spent years creating some of the cleanest and most admired builds in the scene.
Back in 2024 at the Texas C10 Nationals, Jack made waves when he purchased a standout truck known as “Spec Truck” from Jason Hill, owner of Hill’s Hot Rods based in Lubbock, Texas. This wasn’t just any OBS build. It was the first Chevy OBS C1500 mounted on a Roadster Shop Spec chassis, and it quickly became a certified head-turner in the community.
So, when Roadster Shop announced the release of their new Spec chassis for the Chevy OBS Tahoe and Blazer, Jack knew exactly what had to be done. If he had the first OBS truck on a Spec chassis, he had to have the first OBS Blazer or Tahoe build on one too. It only made sense.
As luck would have it, Hills Hot Rods received the very first Spec chassis for the OBS Tahoe and Blazer platform. Jack and Jason Hill jumped into planning right away, mapping out every detail of what the build could become. Even though Jack wasn’t entirely sure he’d end up owning it, the two collaborated closely throughout the process.
It all came to a head at the 2024 Goodguys Fall Show in Fort Worth. Jack was there, as usual, catching up with friends and supporting the scene. Then the big red Hills Hot Rods hauler rolled in. When the rear door dropped, Jack saw it. His vision. Perfect stance, flawless lines, and unmistakable quality. Without missing a beat, he shouted across the lot, “SOLD!”
Later, he joked that he felt like a fish on a hook, and Jason had just reeled him in. But anyone who knows Jack understands it wasn’t just a spontaneous decision. It was meant to be.
The newly dubbed “Spec Blazer” started as a stock 1993 4WD Chevy Blazer. Under the skilled hands of Hill’s Hot Rods, it was transformed into a sleek, low-slung 2WD showpiece riding on the groundbreaking Roadster Shop Spec chassis.
The finished build reflects everything Jack and Jason envisioned: clean lines, modern performance, and timeless design. It’s the perfect match to Jack’s 1997 Spec Truck, which also carries the coveted Serial Number 001. Two boundary-pushing OBS builds. Two Number 001 chassis. One dedicated enthusiast who continues to raise the bar for the OBS scene.
Jack’s not slowing down anytime soon.
