Jesse Encinas, an experienced builder of C10 pickups with a history that includes 1st-gen and squarebody models, decided to take on the challenge of a ‘67-’72 model. His goal: to find a rare gem among 2nd-gen C10s — an original 1967 short bed with the Panoramic option listed on the SPID. This search required considerable time and effort.
After fruitless online searches, Jesse stumbled upon a potential project while driving through Mesa. There he found a big back window cab paired with a short bed lacking marker lights, though the truck was not available for sale. Undeterred, Jesse stopped and spoke with the owner, learning that the truck had been acquired from a friend at a wrecking yard in New Mexico 15 years earlier. Negotiations led Jesse to acquire the truck for his project.
Even after securing the cab and bed, Jesse still needed essential components, all sourced with a preference for original steel. His cousin, Adrian Villalobos, located a perfect hood in Pennsylvania, while Tom at Truckin Krazy provided the grill and fenders. As the sheet metal components came together, Jesse ordered a chassis from GSI, shipping it to Arizona High Test for custom modifications known as the “holy roller” treatment. Testing the chassis on a dyno without its sheet metal was a nerve-wracking experience, generating an impressive 619 horsepower at the tire.
Jesse’s meticulous approach underscored his commitment to preserving and enhancing the classic automotive heritage, ensuring each component aligned seamlessly with the original design of this iconic truck series.
