This pro touring truck movement is really taking off. The explosion in the number of trucks at the spring fling edition of the Pro Touring Truck Shootout is proof that this market segment is more than just lip service. In fact, we’ve been involved – in one way or another – with the PTTS events since their very inception in 2020, and we’ve watched the momentum and enthusiasm continue to snowball with every event. We think it’s a great addition to the community and provides an action-packed alternative for enthusiasts who would rather wheel their truck around a track than sit in a lawn chair.
For 2023, event organizer, Arnie Gonzalez, has added the talent of Brian Finch to help bolster the operation and bring along some of his tried-and-true knowledge to the table. What this means is more sponsor support, and an overall well-rounded event with challenges designed to provide more fun for participants and fans. On top of the autocross event, there is a road cruise, drag racing, and a rowdy, free-form gymkhana/drift segment where drivers can put on a smoke show and kill a set of tires.Â
It’s really cool to see how many participants were once spectators who have been stung by the racing bug. I’m guilty of being roped in by the smell of race gas and rubber. These events provided the massive impetus behind the conception of Dozer, our ‘86 C10 pro touring build. If you haven’t been to at PTTS event, do yourself a favor and put one on your schedule. It’s totally worth it!
